It is well know fact that flow in micro-channels is highly laminar with very low Reynolds number. In such creeping flow conditions it is very difficult to achieve mixing as using well as pumping of fluid using conventional design. For fluid transport in applications like lab on chip etc., this can be achieved by ingenious utilization on modal frequencies and mode shapes. Regions of positive displacement of volume formed between two vibrating compliant cantilever beams, travelling in space and time can be one such method. In this method a combination of mode shapes is utilized to propel the trapped fluid in one direction. Vibrations can be forced using piezoelectric crystals attached with the cantilever body and modulated using function generators.
